Mavericks Stave Off Elimination after Rout
Boston Inches Closer to Championship
Mavs Fall 3-1 with 38-Point Loss in Game 4
The Dallas Mavericks have been forced to face elimination in the NBA Finals after a devastating 122-84 loss to the Boston Celtics in Game 4. The Mavericks have now fallen to a 3-1 deficit in the best-of-seven series, making their chances of a comeback virtually nonexistent.
History is stacked against the Mavericks, as no team has ever come back to win an NBA playoff series after losing the first three games. The 38-point final margin was also the third-biggest ever in an NBA Finals game, further diminishing the Mavericks' hopes.
Despite the grim outlook, the Mavericks showed some fight in Game 4. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving led the team's scoring with over 20 points each, but their efforts were not enough to overcome the Celtics' suffocating defense and balanced scoring attack.
The Celtics, led by Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, have now scored nearly all the points in the series so far. Tatum has averaged over 27 points per game, while Brown has been just behind with over 25 points per game. Their dominance has been a major factor in Boston's success thus far.
Game 5 of the series will take place in Boston on Monday night. The Mavericks will need a miraculous performance to extend the series and avoid a sweep. If they can pull off an upset, Game 6 would return to Dallas on Thursday, June 15.
